Name: Jonathan Dusleag
Graduation Year: 2024
Q: Where were you prior to MSHM?
Before being enrolled in the MSHM program, I completed my undergraduate degree at Indiana University in Healthcare Management and Policy. During my four undergraduate years, I also completed three internships for CVS Health, Ascension, and Peyton Manning Children. These roles allowed me to gain experience in multiple facets of healthcare, including administration, pharmaceuticals, and observing direct patient care.
Q: What projects are you working on at your practicum site?
I am currently working at JWF Specialty, which is a division of EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants. So far in this role, I am managing projects with a focus on stewardship analytics. I am undergoing immense Tableau training and will be creating a new program and dashboard for our healthcare clients. These projects will help improve our client service protocols, and risk management, and refine the presentation of medical claims to clients.
Q: What skills are you using most at your practicum site that you learned through your MSHM coursework?
Throughout my coursework with Business Foundations over the summer, I attained a lot of knowledge and skills that have correlated directly with my practicum site. The Operations Management course taught me key skills such as project management and process improvement. This has helped me transition into my Project Management position with much more fluency. Quantitative Analysis has taught me how to analyze and deal with data, which has also helped me in my new role.
Q: Have you attended any career fairs/networking events? Who did you meet? What did you take away from this experience?
I have attended multiple Kelley career fairs and networking events. These events really helped me gain valuable insight and connections at companies I’m interested in post-graduation. This has really helped me get out of my shell and gain valuable networking experience.
Q: Have you worked with career services at Kelley or O’Neill? What did you take away from this experience?
Career services at Kelley have really helped me develop my resume, interview skills, job searching skills, and networking skills. I feel much more confident going into recruitment season with all of the support at Kelley and O’Neill.
Q: Do you feel supported by program faculty and staff?
In my Graduate Assistant position, I have had the opportunity to work directly with the program faculty. The MSHM faculty and staff have been very supportive and aware of the imposter syndrome some of us may face. They are always very supportive and kind and I am very happy to be in a program with such great people.
Q: What is your favorite part of the MSHM program thus far?
My favorite parts of the program so far are the connections you gain, the presentation and leadership skills we are developing, and the business acumen we have developed so far. Throughout our courses through the Kelley School of Business and O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, we have developed essential skills such as health economics, quantitive analysis, health finance, operations management, marketing, leadership, and more. Going through these courses with exceptional peers has made this learning process very enjoyable.
