Describe your career journey!
“My career journey has been more like a cobblestone road than a highway. Coming from Mexico to the US was not easy. I started out training in Infectious Diseases and later practiced medicine for a while. I was ready for change and wanted to understand the business side of healthcare. I was ready to reboot my brain’s “operating system” to “run the business/entrepreneur apps.”
An IU MBA help me achieve the transformation. Now, I run a network of clinics in the US positioned in a “niche” market with ample space to grow. I also run a laboratory in Mexico with multiple locations and a Clinical Trials company. I serve as Director of those three main companies: the US network of clinics, the Mexico laboratories, and the Clinical Trials company.
Q: What projects are you working on?
A: MSHM students are planning the “advertising” part of opening a new clinic in Kansas, planning for the malpractice insurance negotiations / contracting in three different states, and navigating the Medicare credentialing process.
Q: Why do you serve as a preceptor?
A: Preceptorship and the overall interaction with these students have helped me see multiple problems and opportunities with different eyes that I wouldn’t have by myself alone. Preceptorship also keeps me reading and studying. It is like a “gym” for professional life! As a former IU student, I feel being a preceptor is a moral obligation.”
