Q: What project(s) are you working on at your practicum site?
A: My practicum site is with the Quality, Safety, and Infection Prevention Analytics team for IU Health’s Methodist & University hospitals. For my Capstone project, I’m using data to investigate readmissions and develop recommendations as to how IU Health could mitigate readmissions.
Q: What skills are you using most at your practicum site (that you learned through your MSHM coursework)?
A: At my practicum site, I often use skills that I developed through our Quantitative Analysis course. While my practicum site doesn’t necessarily use Excel that often, the foundations developed by the Quantitative Analysis course have helped me understand the other programs and tools that I use at my practicum site!
Q: Have you attended any career fairs/networking events? Who did you meet? What did you take away from this experience?
A: I attended both sessions of the Kelley Fall Career Fair. I scheduled brief 1-on-1 sessions with the companies I was interested in. I met with many companies, but my most important takeaway was the confidence I acquired from speaking with individuals from those companies. I also made a connection with someone who will be my coworker starting this summer!
Q: Have you worked with career services at Kelley or O’Neill? What did you take away from this experience?
A: I worked closely with Kelley Career Services and Darbe Allison throughout the interviewing and recruiting process. Darbe was incredibly helpful and supportive! She did a great job calming my nerves while making sure I made the right decision for me!
Q: Have you secured a job (post-graduation)?
A: In October, I accepted an Internal Audit Consultant role with Crowe Healthcare Risk Consulting LLC!
Q: Do you feel supported by program faculty and staff?
A: I absolutely feel supported by the MSHM faculty and staff. They are constantly finding ways to support students, and they consider that everybody’s situation is different! They do a great job of making sure their students are developing skills that will benefit them in the workplace upon graduation!
Q: Do you feel connected to your peers (in your cohort)?
A: I feel very connected to my peers in the cohort. I would even make the argument that the people have been the best part of the program thus far! It was instilled in us since orientation that going through the program without support from your peers doesn’t work. I feel we’ve all developed close relationships that will last long after we graduate from the program!
