Organization Gennesaret Free Clinics (GFC) is an organization that facilitates free health clinics in partner organization sites. We have four service lines: Health, Dental, Health Recovery Homes, and Women’s Health. Gennesaret Free Clinics provides quality, accessible, and compassionate patient-centered healthcare for persons experiencing homelessness or lacking established healthcare. Our services include women’s health, with a focus on providing breast and cervical cancer screenings, facilitating access to diagnostic tests, and targeted navigation services, particularly for Black and Hispanic women.
Job/Project Overview
Gennesaret Free Clinic is partnering with Pink-4-Ever Ending Disparities in a project to increase awareness of breast cancer risk and screening among Black women in Indiana. The role of Gennesaret in this project is to be a pilot clinic to implement the use of an online breast cancer risk assessment tool, designed specifically to assess breast cancer risk for Black women, by patients and health providers in a clinical setting. The student will assist with: developing procedures and materials needed to implement the use of the tool in the clinic setting; training staff and volunteers on their roles and responsibilities related to implementing the tool; developing supplemental educational materials to help with interpreting and understanding the risk prediction results from the tool; and creating small media (short videos and printed materials) to increase awareness among Black women about risk factors related to breast cancer incidence and mortality.

Preceptor
Lisa R. Hayes is the Director of Women’s Health at Gennesaret Free Clinic. Lisa has over 20 years of experience serving socio-economically challenged populations as a lawyer, manager, advocate, and community collaborator. She is a certified patient navigator and certified community health worker. Lisa coordinates breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services and other GYN services provided at Gennesaret clinics and partner sites. She also helps women connect with resources to help them access health and socio-economic services they need across the continuum of care. Lisa centers her work on advocacy and removing barriers that might prevent or delay a woman from receiving appropriate and quality care.
