Name: Ray Martinez
Graduation Year: 2022
Post-Graduation Employment: Kite Pharma
Q: Where were you before the MSHM program? Where were you placed for practicum?
A: I graduated from IU Bloomington’s School of Public Health with a degree in Community Health. As someone who did not have a strong business background, I can confidently say the program has prepared me for the work I currently do as a Project Management Associate. Through the experience at my practicum site with INCOG Biopharma Services and The Kelley Business of Life Sciences certificate course, I grew a strong interest in acquiring a role within the Life Sciences industry.
Q: What are you up to now?
A: I am currently working at Kite Pharma as a Project Management Associate supporting Kite’s mission of curing cancer through cell therapy. The skills that I learned and practiced in the Practicum are relevant and highly applicable to my everyday tasks.
Q: What was your favorite part of the MSHM program?
A: My favorite part of the MSHM program was being able to help create the MSHM Student Association, which has unlimited potential. Being able to create this student organization means having a strong student-led community of various organizations and funding opportunities to give back to the MSHM program and IU Community. I always felt comfortable reaching out to peers for help with schoolwork, a laugh, or even just a fun night out. One of my favorite memories as an MSHM student was having an intramural basketball team to de-stress and have a weekly group exercise activity.
Q: What is your advice to current or prospective MSHM students?
A: I encourage MSHM students to explore the healthcare industry and research all the amazing opportunities it has to offer. With a Master of Science in Healthcare Management degree, there is so much we can do as leaders. Also, take advantage of the growing MSHM alumni network.
