Q: How would you describe your MSHM journey?
A: Before the MSHM program, I attended Miami University where I graduated with a BS in Public Health. I knew that after graduating from Miami I wanted to continue with my education in the health field as I have had such a passion for it for so many years. This is why I chose the MSHM program! It has provided me with such a valuable set of skills and competencies that I will use moving forward throughout my last semester here at IU and in my career.
Q: Where was your practicum experience?
A: As a part of the program, I completed my practicum experience as a Clinical Intern at Indiana University Health, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Service (ADRS). I am currently working on a pilot program for ADRS clients and patients. The goal is to keep the brain healthy by learning and practicing the 5 pillars of brain health to limit the chances of developing Alzheimer’s and Dementia. My preceptor, Amanda Mosier (Mosier K), has been so helpful and supportive throughout my time at IU Health, and I have loved working with her and the rest of the ADRS team. Having this hands-on practical application of what I am learning in the classroom and using that knowledge and skills as an intern has been a very valuable part of my experience.
Q: What did you enjoy most about the MSHM program?
A: One of the aspects that I love the most about the MSHM program is the incredible support that both my peers in my cohort and the faculty and staff have given me. Everyone in the program is extremely encouraging and motivating, because not only do we want to see each other succeed throughout this year, but also move forward throughout our careers. My cohort has become family, and I have loved hanging out with everyone both inside and outside of the classroom. We all get along very well which has made the program so much more fun and memorable!
