Part 1. Collaborative Tools for Student Interaction
When returning to in-person teaching after the pandemic, one feature of online teaching to keep is collaborative online tools such as collaborative documents (e.g., Google docs or slides), discussion boards, and interactive whiteboards such as Jamboards or Miro boards. Students can use these tools to solve problems collaboratively in a face-to-face classroom, while instructors can go online to monitor the progress of student groups and provide instant feedback. Because they allow students to grapple with course content, to build community in the classroom, and to connect with the instructor, these are technologies to consider keeping when returning to face-to-face teaching.
This quick tip has been drawn from “Improved student engagement in higher education’s next normal,” by Ed Glantz, Chris Gamrat, Lisa Lenze, and Jeffrey Bardzell, in the Educause Review, Tuesday, March 16, 2021.
