Summary
Assists in the delivery of Reference services with responsibilities for the development, maintenance, and promotion of the library collections. Provides responsive assistance to patrons and staff, helps to identify and address community needs, and assists in development of library services and programs to address identified needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs reference, referral, patron advisory, and local history assistance in a pleasant, constructive, and cooperative manner
- Assists and instructs patrons in the use of the library, including usage of technology
- Writing for publication and social media as requested or required
- Performs area organizational duties in a pleasant, constructive and cooperative manner
- Demonstrate proficiency in Reference competencies
- Maintains and refines databases of local history information
- Participate in development and weeding of collections and assigned areas
- Assist the preparation of finding aids such as requested or required
- Assists in general library appearance & upkeep, and security with occasional walk-throughs
- Assists with planning for technology and in the maintenance of library technology
- Assist in the planning, preparation, presentation & promotion of adult programming
- Public speaking as requested, conducts tours
- Planning and implementation of the delivery of outstanding customer service
- Observes and implements Library policies and procedures
- Other related duties as assigned
Education/Experience
- MLS and public service experience, will consider MLS student
- Experience in a library
- Supervisory experience preferred
- High degree of Computer literacy with working knowledge of computers and peripherals
- Eligible for LC4 or higher

Supervision
- Supervised by Reference Dept Head
Physical Demands
- Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height
- Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 20 pounds
- Displays good coordination and mobility
- Uninterrupted standing and walking for lengthy periods
- Requires a smile and cheerful attitude
Schedule
- Typically 38 hours weekly if full-time, 20 – 25 hours if part-time including daytime, evening & weekend hours as necessary to accommodate service needs
Working Environment
- Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment
