Week 6 is a good time to gather student feedback and reflect on how your classes are going. Midterm feedback helps you decide what changes to make to enhance student learning. If you are trying new strategies, ask students how those are going. Focus your questions on their learning, including barriers to their learning, and ask them for their suggested course modifications.
A simple “keep-stop-start” format can be very effective:
- What should I/we/you keep doing to help your learning?
- What should I/we/you stop doing to help your learning?
- What should I/we/you start doing to help your learning?
For more ideas, visit midsemester evaluations webpage and read our blog posts about midterm feedback. We have Canvas quizzes with questions for a range of class sizes, and we can help you choose questions that Canvas or Qualtrics can analyze for you.
Once you’ve reviewed your students’ feedback, decide what to change next week, next month, and what needs to wait until after the semester. Share your plans with your students so they know you value their feedback and are committed to their success.
