September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), it’s “a time to raise awareness of this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic.” For those in crisis, 988 is the new three-digit phone number to call, text, or chat across the U.S., and they can be reached at https://988lifeline.org/ online. Their services are free, confidential, and available 24/7.
The Library at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community has curated a number of books on suicide that can be checked out by anyone in Indiana. Call us at 800-437-7924 or email libiidc@indiana.edu if you see something here you’d like to borrow. Click on the titles to see if they’re currently on the Library’s bookshelves.

The IndianaDisabilityResourceFINDER.org is an online tool specifically designed to connect people with disability-related programs, services, and supports in their local community anywhere in Indiana 24/7. It can create a customized list of resources based on a person’s unique situation and needs. FINDER is easy to use and can support first-time users with a step-by-step guide, but it also has advanced features for those who choose to create a profile account.
There’s no fee to use the site nor are there any ads to block users from getting right to the information you desire! Search for providers of disability services, resources, and events of interest to the disability field. There is a Frequently Ask Questions page that offers information on how to create a listing or how to claim one that’s already there as well as how to install the database as a mobile app!
