This year, Indiana University will be celebrating Juneteenth in a much bigger way. In an email received from the president of the university, Dr. Pamela Whitten writes, “Indiana University will recognize this important day of freedom and independence annually, and for the first time on Monday, June 20, IU offices will be closed. This will be a paid university holiday for our faculty and staff.”
The IIDC and its Library will be closed on Monday, June 20th and will re-open on Tuesday, June 21st at 8:00 a.m.

As the sad news of yet another beloved celebrity’s death due to mental illness reaches us, we would like to remind everyone that May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Millions of people nationwide live with mental illness, and the stress of living during a pandemic hasn’t helped our mental wellbeing during these last couple of years. For those who need help, here are a few options to consider:
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): https://www.nami.org/Get-Involved/Awareness-Events/Mental-Health-Awareness-Month
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): https://www.samhsa.gov/programs/mental-health-awareness-month
Indiana Disability Resource FINDER: https://www.indianadisabilityresourcefinder.org/
We also have a number of books on mental health and mental illness available in the Library at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community. Here’s a link to a search results list in IUCAT for Mental Health. Please send us an email at libiidc@indiana.edu or call us at 800-437-7924 if you see anything you’d like to check out.

Spring is in the air, and the redbud trees are blooming! That also means summer is right around the corner, and THAT means it’s time to start planning our summer activities. For some parents, summer camps are the way to go; for others, vacation planning is in the works. Still others are happy to stay at home and enjoy each other’s company.
For those who may be looking for summer camps for 2022, here’s a link to the Indiana Resource Center for Autism’s summer camps list for 2022: https://www.iidc.indiana.edu/irca/articles/summer-camps-and-programs.html
