Driving
Registration and Check-In for the 2025 Summer Music Clinic are on Sunday, June 15, from 12:30 to 3 PM in Spruce Residence Hall. Parking details and check-in instructions will be emailed the week before camp begins.
Flying
Arrival: We recommend flying into the Indianapolis International Airport (IND). Please schedule your arrival between 10 AM and 12 noon on Sunday. This span of time will allow for any delays, travel to Bloomington (about an hour), and a timely arrival for the 12:30-3 PM check-in.
Departure: the Finale Concert on Saturday should be finished by 3:30 PM. We recommend that for traveling home, you arrange a return limo or shuttle for the earliest time after this concert. Because the orchestra will be performing first, students in this ensemble will be free to leave after 2:00 PM. Students performing in either of the two bands should arrange to leave after 3:45 PM. We recommend an IND flight departure time of 6:00 PM or later to allow for travel time and check-in at the airport. There is also the option of staying an extra night in the dorm ($60, counselor chaperone provided) and flying out on Sunday morning.
Travel from IND to Bloomington
For students under age 18, the best option for traveling from the airport to Bloomington is Classic Touch Limousine Service: 800-319-0082. They will offer a 10% discount if you tell them you are with the IU Summer Music Clinic.
For 18-year-olds, or student accompanied by an adult (age 18+), round-trip shuttle rides from IND to Bloomington may be purchased online from Go Express Travel. Please request a drop-off at “Willkie North Dormitory.” Summer Music Clinic staff members will be waiting at this stop to accompany shuttle students to the dorm.
Our Summer Music Clinic manager will contact students and families who we anticipate will be traveling to Bloomington by air. Because we understand the anxiety of students traveling by air unaccompanied, please don’t hesitate to contact us at iusmc@iu.edu or at 812-855-1372 if you have any questions or concerns.
Housing
All Summer Music Clinic students will live in Spruce Hall (see map above), a 6-minute walk from the Jacobs School of Music. Each student will stay in an air-conditioned double room with each floor being equipped with several restrooms with private shower and toilet stalls. Students should plan on bringing:
- a set of extra-long twin sheets and blanket (or a sleeping bag)
- pillow and pillowcase
- towels
- students may bring cell phones, although they will be required to be turned off during all classes, rehearsals, and concerts.
While in the residence hall, students will be highly supervised. Each floor will have multiple Summer Music Clinic counselors in residence living with the students.
