Position Opportunity: Public Services Librarian – Youth Focus; La Porte County Public Library (IN)

An opening for an enthusiastic, energetic, and creative Public Services Librarian with a Youth focus is available for an individual with demonstrated ability to interact with youth as well as adults. Responsibilities will include providing reference assistance, readers’ advisory, and the development and presentation of youth (ages 0-17) programming. Qualifications include an ALA accredited MLS degree, experience presenting programs for ages 0-17 with a knowledge of Every Child Ready to Read and the ability to use technology to provide services to all ages. The ideal candidate will be an advocate for the library, with strong skills in creating and maintaining community partnerships, presenting to parents, teachers and partners on library services, and outreach programming for elementary schools, daycares and social service facilities.

Starting Pay: $19.00/hour

DCeXa will be on-site during the Indiana Library Federation career fair on November 15th from 1:30p – 3:50p to help anyone with their accounts, answer questions and introduce ourselves. I wanted to reattach the communication to invite students, faculty, and alumni to the event.

 

Students have a reduced student rate of $25 to attend the conference per day. But, as always, students can attend the asynchronous career fair through DCeXa for FREE if they cannot make the career fair in person. We highly encourage students and alumni to set up their DCeXa account in advance and fill in their credentials. Since some employers will not be able to make it in person, they do know to attend the event asynchronously/virtually, as we will be continuing the career fair virtually until the end of November on DCeXa.

Goshen Public Library is seeking a full-time community-focused team member to work as a Community Outreach Specialist for Latino & Hispanic Communities in Goshen. The ideal candidate shares a passion for serving Goshen’s diverse populations and sees the library as a place where learning transforms lives.

Responsibilities include:
Develop enriching, educational experiences with a focus on early childhood education through the implementation of a bilingual Play & Learn group in Spanish and English.
Provide bilingual early literacy education and library introduction for caregivers using Every Child Ready to Read.
Attend community events and meetings to share Library information.
Connect individuals and families to community resources offered in the area.
Translate library promotional materials from English into Spanish.
Serve at public service desks.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications are:
Bachelor’s degree in library science, education, social work, or a related field.
Ability to read, write and speak in English and Spanish.
Desire to welcome and serve a diverse group of patrons.
Enthusiasm for public service.

Flexibility in scheduling is necessary. Days, evenings, and weekends are required. This position will require the successful completion of a background check. This position is a three-year grant-funded position through the Community Foundation of Elkhart County.

Hourly Student Position Announcement: Teaching Assistant with Dr. Angela Murillo

Dr. Angela Murillo is looking for a student to assist with their fellowship program, which educates students in technical and research skills related to large-scale data management. The hourly student employee will receive $15.00 per hour and is expected to work approximately 10 hours per week on the project.

 

The primary role of the student employee will be to help manage the fellowship-related training sessions (i.e., help answer student questions, record the lectures, notetaking/follow-up, etc.). The student employee will also be responsible for communicating with partnering institutions; therefore, excellent written and professional communication skills are vital for this position.

 

The student employee must be available during the technical training sessions. These occur Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 – 10:00 (PT) / 12:00 – 1:00 (ET) from January 17th, 2023, through April 7th, 2023. Additionally, the student employee will be required to meet for project meetings (dates/times to be determined).

 

Ideal candidates should have the following skills:

  • Willingness to learn about or knowledge of technical topics (i.e., software development, cloud computing, distributed computing, data management, etc.)
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Professionalism

 

The hourly student employee will attend all technical and research training sessions. So this teaching assistantship offers the opportunity to learn while working.
