The person in this position will join a collaborative and collegial group of 13 STEM librarians in the Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Purdue’s showcase integrated classroom/library space and home to the Library of Engineering and Science. The individual will be responsible for working with between 3 and 5 departments and schools in the Colleges of Engineering, Science, and the Purdue Polytechnic Institute to identify and meet the information needs of their students, faculty, and staff, including embedded or standalone instruction, research data management support, individual consultations, and communicating and referring to the diversity of Libraries services, such as open access publishing, systematic reviews, data visualization and maker tools. Establishes a research program leading to publications and presentations at national and international conferences. Participates in Libraries wide initiatives and contributes to faculty governance.

The minimum salary for this position is $71,000.

Faculty tenure-track position with an Academic Year (AY) appointment. Rank of assistant professor.

Start-up funds in support of research are provided for computer/software/equipment, for travel/professional development, and for a half time graduate assistant for two years.

Responsible for original, complex and copy cataloging of materials in all formats including electronic. Contributes records to OCLC. Maintains library catalog and download records. Compiles statistics and prepares the monthly and annual cataloging/withdrawal report.
Examples of Work Performed	Cataloging all Library materials and coordinating cataloging activities with tri-college system, including download records. Familiarity with MARC, including AACR2 and other formats for bibliographic holdings and authority control. Maintenance of OPAC and relevant report generation. Acquisition of Library materials, including electronic licensing and troubleshooting, book repair, gifts and technological familiarity with Sierra (or similar) acquisition protocols. Ensure consistent and integrated access to electronic and print resources; Troubleshoots subscription-related access to electronic resources through appropriate catalog and link resolver maintenance. Monitors terms of electronic subscription agreements to assure subscriber and vendor compliance and delivery of content. Complies statistics, analyzes and disseminates usage/management reports. Also includes reference and circulation desk duties and rotational weekend and evening hours. May provide library instruction to college students as requested. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications	Master’s degree in Library Science from ALA accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications	Cataloging experience with Dewey and OCLC Familiarity with cataloging and acquisitions technologies Experience with Library instruction
Physical Demands	The physical requirements for this position may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the ability to use a computer, calculator, telephone, keyboard, and/or various types of office equipment. Must be able to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats and satisfactorily perform the functions of this position.

Hourly Student Position Announcement: Teaching Assistant with Dr. Angela Murillo — DEADLINE NOVEMBER 30TH!

Dr. Angela Murillo is looking for a student to assist with their fellowship program, which educates students in technical and research skills related to large-scale data management. The hourly student employee will receive $15.00 per hour and is expected to work approximately 10 hours per week on the project.

The primary role of the student employee will be to help manage the fellowship-related training sessions (i.e., help answer student questions, record the lectures, notetaking/follow-up, etc.). The student employee will also be responsible for communicating with partnering institutions; therefore, excellent written and professional communication skills are vital for this position.

The student employee must be available during the technical training sessions. These occur Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 – 10:00 (PT) / 12:00 – 1:00 (ET) from January 17th, 2023, through April 7th, 2023. Additionally, the student employee will be required to meet for project meetings (dates/times to be determined).

Ideal candidates should have the following skills:

Willingness to learn about or knowledge of technical topics (i.e., software development, cloud computing, distributed computing, data management, etc.)
Excellent written communication skills
Professionalism

The hourly student employee will attend all technical and research training sessions. So this teaching assistantship offers the opportunity to learn while working.

Houghton Library Visiting Fellowships

The Visiting Fellowship program offers scholars at all stages of their careers funding to pursue projects that require in-depth research on the library’s holdings, as well as opportunities to draw on staff expertise and participate in intellectual life at Harvard.

Houghton provides fellows with access to other libraries at the University, and opportunities to exchange knowledge and promote their research through its publications, and scholarly and public programs.

Recent fellows’ research topics speak to the breadth and depth of Houghton’s holdings—ranging from colonial-era Native American music to the collecting of Sanskrit manuscripts, and Iberian chivalric romances to celebrity pregnancy on the London stage.

Houghton Library has historically focused on collecting the written record of European and Eurocentric North American culture, yet it holds a large and diverse amount of primary sources valuable for research on the languages, culture and history of indigenous peoples of the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

The library particularly welcomes proposals that reexamine its collections through a global lens and/or demonstrate how the holdings of a rare book and manuscript library can contribute to discourse around contemporary social, political, and cultural issues. New fellowships on gender and sexuality studies in the performing arts, and early modern black lives underscore Houghton’s commitment to diversifying perspectives on our collections.

Responsibilities

Fellows in the 2023–2024 cohort will receive a $4,500 stipend and are expected to be in residence at Houghton for at least four weeks within their fellowship year (July through June), though these do not have to be consecutive weeks.
Fellows are also required to produce a written summary of their experience working with the collections.
