Assistant Professor – Social Sciences Librarian

Reporting to the director of Research and Instruction Services, the Social Sciences Librarian supports the UNO Libraries’ vision as inclusive and engaged centers for teaching, learning, research, and service. Working in a team-based, collaborative environment, the Social Sciences Librarian will: build strong relationships with students, faculty, and staff; provide virtual and in-person research consultations; engage in active information literacy instruction; develop quality physical and electronic collections; and deliver expertise in data collection and analysis. In addition, the Social Sciences Librarian fulfills requirements of faculty status in areas of contributions to librarianship, scholarly activities, and service. Subject area responsibilities include Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Black Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Native American Studies, Latino/Latin American Studies, Gerontology, Social Work, Sociology/Anthropology, and Political Science. Description/Responsibilities: We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative person for a unique professional opportunity! The media specialist/teen librarian is a full-time, benefits eligible position, with hours shared between two facilities: Paul Hadley Middle School (Mooresville Consolidated School Corporation) and Mooresville Public Library. This position will offer the unique opportunity to work with teens in a school library and in a public library, creating a strong partnership between both environments and facilitating quality library services to students.

The position is Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. No evenings or weekends. During the school calendar year, the librarian will spend several hours each day at each building; during school breaks, the librarian will serve full-time at the public library.

The candidate must possess excellent communication, organizational, and programming skills and be a team player. A job description and MPL application are available and posted at mooresvillelib.org. Mooresville Public Library, an award-winning library, is located 14 miles southwest of Indianapolis or approximately 30 miles north of Bloomington, Indiana. Paul Hadley Middle School is located less than one mile from Mooresville Public Library.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education with School Media Specialist license required. ALA-approved Master of Library Science degree from an accredited program preferred.

Salary: $26,000 annually: 40 hours a week. Medical, dental, vision benefits available.
