Graduate Student Research Assistant Position

“Data Reuse for Local Community” project (PI: Dr. Ayoung Yoon, Co-PI: Dr. Andrea Copeland) is seeking an enthusiastic student research assistant who will be assisting various project and research activities. The goal of this 3-year-project is to support community members’ data reuse by facilitating their connection with existing resources and data infrastructure in order to create equitable access to the vast stores of data being collected about their communities. The project focus is public libraries and at the end of project period the team will be developing educational resources for public librarians to work with community members and support community’s data needs.

This is an IMLS funded project, and the RA will receive:

  • Part time student tuition (9 credit hours) support (*Note that the tuition support does not include this fall semester, as the project start date is Oct 2017).
  • Stipend for part-time student effort (10 hours per week) $10,200 annually
  • Half of student insurance benefit ($1,514)

ALI Scholarly Communication Librarianship Conference, October 27, 2017

“The Academic Libraries of Indiana (ALI) is pleased to announce the ALI Scholarly Communication Librarianship Conference, to be held in the Ruth Lilly Auditorium at the IUPUI University Library. Formerly the Michiana Scholarly Communication Librarianship Conference, this marks the first year of a new partnership with ALI and a move to a more central location.   An interdisciplinary conference, this event should be of interest to working scholarly communication librarians, library directors looking to implement scholarly communication initiatives and library school students planning on a career in academic librarianship. This year we are featuring presentations from a number of copyright and legal experts including several former Copyright Conference Presenters.

Congratulations to Ayoung Yoon!

Ayoung Yoon received Two IMLS grants as PI!!

On the first grant, Ayoung is the PI and Andrea Copeland is the Co-PI on the project entitled, “Data Reuse for Local Community”.  This is a 3-year award for $355,816.

For the 2nd grant, Ayoung is the PI and Devon Donaldson is Co-PI from IUB.  This project entitled, “Library Capacity Assessment and Development for Big Data Curation” is a one year award for $49,773.

The IMLS grants are highly competitive and this is truly a huge accomplishment!

Carnegie-Whitney Awards up to $5,000 for Guides to Library Resources

The American Library Association Publishing Committee provides a grant of up to $5,000 for the preparation of print or electronic reading lists, indexes or other guides to library resources that promote reading or the use of library resources at any type of library.

Funded projects have ranged from popular, general-reader proposals such as “ReadMOre,” a reading list for Missouri’s state-wide reading program, to more specialized, scholarly proposals such as “Librarianship and Information Science in the Islamic World, 1966-1999: An Annotated Bibliography.”

Applications must be received by November 3, 2017. Recipients will be notified by mid-March 2018.

2017 LITA National Forum

2017 LITA National Forum
Denver, Colorado  November 9-12, 2017

STUDENT REGISTRATION RATE AVAILABLE – 50% OFF REGISTRATION RATE — $180

The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the American Library Association, is offering a discounted student registration rate to the 2017 LITA National Forum. This offer is limited to graduate students enrolled in ALA-accredited programs.  In exchange for the lower registration cost, these graduate students will be asked to assist the LITA organizers and Forum presenters with Forum on-site operations. This is a great way to network and meet librarians active in the field.

The selected students will be expected to attend the full LITA National Forum, Friday noon through Sunday noon. Attendance during the pre-conferences on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning is not required.  While you will be assigned a variety of duties, you will be able to attend the Forum programs, which include 2 keynote sessions, over 50 concurrent sessions and poster presentations, as well as many opportunities for social engagement.

The student rate is $180 – half the regular registration rate for LITA members.  A real bargain, this rate includes a Friday night reception at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center, breakfasts, and Saturday lunch. (more…)
