UCPL is an Indiana Class C Public Library (libraries serving a population of under 10,000), which serves a diverse multicultural local population of approximately 5600.
This is one of Indiana’s historic Carnegie libraries. The building was erected in 1904, and is on the National Register of Historic Places., and is located in a city
which borders the Indiana/Ohio State Line, in this setting the library is located approximately 500 feet from the State Line.
Description:
The Library Director is responsible to the Board of Trustees for the operation and
management of all library services and administration. These may include administering and or managing library business, formulating policies,
submitting required reports to the Indiana StateLibrary and Indiana State Board of Accounts, supervising employees, purchasing, and overseeing collection development,
cataloging, technology, and the care and maintenance of the building and grounds. This is a public facing service position; some items are subject to change.
The Director may be responsible for attending to or oversight of financial duties, such as taking care of payroll, bills, and the budget.
The Director will be expected to engage in public outreach, maintain professional relationships with State agencies,
local government, schools, civic organizations, and other community entities.
The Director will promote excellent public program services and working with the public, as well as directly participate in
developing, promoting, and facilitating programs and events as needed.
Qualifications:
At least a Bachelor’s Degree with an Indiana Librarian Certificate 4 (LC4)
or have the ability to meet the requirements for that level of certification. An LC4
requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 college level library science courses (the equivalent
of 15 hours of college level Library Science credit, taken before, during or after
bachelor’s degree).
Preferred qualifications:
A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited
university, with a Level 3 Indiana Public Library Certification. 2-5 years of library
experience, with at least 2 years of supervisory/management experience, is preferred.
Salary:
This is a salary position commensurate with qualifications and experience, with a starting range of $31,000 – $37,000, which is based upon a typical 37 hours work week.
In addition to this, there is PTO time, plus an attractive number of paid Holidays annually, and other benefits.
