Library Professional Assistant: Adult Services Coordinator
Hours Per Week: 37.5
Work Schedule:
Full-time. Day, evening, and weekend shifts required. Non-exempt status.
Salary: $12 per hour minimum
Overview
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Public Services Coordinator helps shape and implement procedures for the delivery of excellent customer service. This role also includes duties in the areas of materials circulation, collection development, and reference services.
Responsibilities
- Oversee in-person information and reference services. Serve as a point of contact for patrons and staff navigating library services.
- Model and encourage a consistent high standard of customer service.
- Coordinate with the management team to optimize the delivery of public services.
- Develop a diverse collection of materials representing a multitude of viewpoints. Use professional resources to anticipate popular demand and select materials in accordance with industry best practices.
- Maintain library materials, analyzing the collection on an ongoing basis, evaluating for balance and comprehensiveness, and weeding outdated and/or damaged items.
- Manage collection budget carefully.
- Assist in the development and presentation of programs and services that support the library’s strategic goals.
- Hold necessary certification with the Indiana State Library for professional positions.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities.
- Enthusiastically support the library’s mission, vision, and values.
- Understand and follow established library and personnel policies, procedures, and work standards.
- Promote the library’s collection and services in a welcoming, friendly, and helpful manner.
- Project a positive image of the library through behavior and appearance.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with patrons, staff, and the community.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Library experience preferred.
- Experience, interest, and skill using new technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with standard software programs.
- Experience working with the public.
Physical Demands
Sit, stand, walk, and speak frequently.
Lift, push, or carry weights up to 25 pounds.
