Hamilton East Public Library is hiring for a Genealogy and Local History Services Coordinator at our Noblesville branch to work in the Indiana Room. This position will report to the Director of Experiential Learning. We are looking for someone who brings a high degree of curiosity and empathy along with a solid understanding of what it means to provide excellent library service. This position is full-time (40 hrs. per week). Must be available to work a schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings, and weekends. Starting pay for this position is $45,600-$50,150 annual (may be negotiated based on experience). This position will be posted internally and externally.
Position Purpose
Serve as a content expert for genealogy and local history focused experiential learning spaces. Provide customer service, program facilitation, and administrative assistance in support of library services and programs, especially as related to the Indiana Room.

Position Essential Functions and Responsibilities

- Serve as a content expert on genealogy and local history experiences in the Indiana Room.
- Develop, plan and deliver genealogy/history programming and services to promote the library’s mission through in-house programs, community events, and outreach services.
- Develops, fosters, and maintains excellent relationships with government, non-profit, educational, and other service-oriented organizations in the Fishers and Noblesville communities.
- Supervise volunteers and work with the HEPL Community Engagement Coordinator and Genealogy Librarian to coordinate volunteer opportunities and schedules for Indiana Room.
- Provide a high level of customer service to Indiana Room patrons.
- Participate in ELT strategic planning and accountability process in alignment with the library’s mission.
- Infuse formal and informal educational tactics across genealogy and history experiences.
- Serve on the Indiana Room exhibit team.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of hands-on history experiences.
- Help plan and implement digital scanning projects in coordination with the Genealogy Librarian.
- Train assistant level staff on Indiana Room content.
- Write desk schedules for Indiana Room staff.
- Supervise Indiana Room Assistants, including work allocation, performance evaluation and management. Motivate employees to achieve high performance and foster a team-oriented and collaborative work environment.
- Assist in keeping safe, orderly, and neat environments in public service and staff areas.
- Assist in maintaining equipment within the Indiana Room.
- Recognize situations appropriate for seeking managerial assistance.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- MLS degree from ALA-accredited program or equivalent degree in a relevant field.
- Previous local history, genealogy, and library or archives experience is required.
- A certification in genealogy is preferred.
- A high degree of technical/digital savvy is preferred.
