Position Description: The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and motivated early career professional for the position of Student Success Librarian. Reporting to the Head of the Undergraduate Library, this position collaborates with campus and Library leaders to design and integrate Library services and programs into the campus-wide initiative for undergraduate and graduate student success, focused on classroom experiences, tutoring and academic support, academic advising and mentoring, and co-curricular student services and experiences. The successful candidate will build partnerships across a variety of programs, including those supporting first-generation students, underrepresented minorities, students on academic probation, international students, transfer students, as well as co-curricular programs targeting students looking to build exceptional portfolios, such as the Illinois Leadership Center.
The incumbent will partner with Library colleagues to integrate existing user services and programming into subject and college-specific success programs, as well as collaboratively design new programs which help the Library align and strengthen its contributions to campus success metrics, including retention and persistence. The successful candidate will also coordinate the successful Research and Writing consultation partnership between the Undergraduate Library and the campus writing center, and undertake expansion of tutoring, speaking and presentation, and related support services in line with Library and campus strategic goals for student success.
As part of the Undergraduate Library, this position will also contribute to unit planning efforts, teach in course-integrated instruction sessions, provide reference services as part of a shared reference model, lead projects for pre-professional graduate assistants, and contribute to cooperative efforts in support of unit and Library goals. This individual will also collaborate in informing the design and structure of success services for integration into the Main Library as part of a multimillion-dollar renovation project.
The successful candidate will be a team-oriented individual who is organized, can meet deadlines, and possesses hands-on experience teaching Undergraduate-focused instruction in an academic library environment. This position has faculty rank, and the incumbent will be expected to meet campus and Library requirements for tenure and promotion, including developing a record of research, publication, and professional service.

Position Duties:
- Build Library and campus partnerships which deliver programs and services that target and improve student retention and success
- Develop a broad network of connected success program planning in concert with Library colleagues, including the Grainger Engineering Library Information Center and Funk ACES Library
- Collaborate with the Library assessment team to assess contributions towards evolving campus success metrics, and identify opportunities to build new programs which address gaps
- Serve as liaison to campus units working with first-year and transfer groups including the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Housing, and the Division of General Studies
- Develop collaborative programming and onboarding activities for first-year students, including course-integrated instruction and orientation services
- Contribute to the Undergraduate Library reference and instructional programs, including leadership of the Research and Writing Consultation Service and participation in the Undergraduate Library instruction program
- Participate in Library-wide committees, task forces, and relevant leadership assignments
- Contribute to the national and international reputation of the University Library through professional research, service, and collaboration with national colleagues and organizations.
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent
- Experience collaborating with diverse student groups and populations in the delivery of educational programs
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative environment with a broad range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds including colleagues, students, faculty, staff, and administrators
- Preparation and commitment to conduct independent scholarship consistent with a tenure-track faculty appointment and indications of ability to meet the promotion and tenure requirements of the University
Preferred
- Experience assessing instructional and/or outreach programming
- Experience providing library instruction and reference services
- Experience designing and implementing programs targeting student success metrics including increasing retention and persistence, and improving GPA.
- Experience collaborating with campus partners on initiatives supporting student success.
- Experience providing tutoring services in an academic environment.
- Experience with project management and/or supervision in a collaborative setting.
