OVPUE IT and OVPUE Records have been collaborating on a long-term project to replace the aging records database with a new system better integrated with IU’s Data Warehouse and accessible to both students and advisors for submitting forms and information.

The new system will eventually house much of the data storage and processing functionality in use in OVPUE Records, but the first release includes a small set of functions impacted by the retirement of IU’s Webserve hosting environment.

Returning Students Application

The new Returning Student form works much like the previous form, but has minor accessibility updates and is built in the Digital Campus Rivet design system.

OVPUE IT development intern Michael Abbot has completed an update for the IU High School Exam Requests Application. The new version of the application maintains all of the functionality of the previous application with three additions:

1. Student contact information is now pulled directly from the IUHS Student Information System instead of being a separate data set students maintain independently.
2. IUHS Staff can now designate which courses allow Examity online proctoring as well as add and remove arbitrary exams from each course’s list of options
3. Students are now encouraged to use Examity instead of in-person proctoring whenever possible

The OVPUE Data Reporting System continues to grow and be more integrated into the work of various units across OVPUE. The latest update to the system includes a visual and accessibility refresh with the Digital Campus team’s Rivet design system, as well as minor enhancements to help the data services and applications team navigate the management interfaces.

The OVPUE website saw its last major revision in 2016 with its move to the OVPUE implementation of the IU Web Framework. During November and December of 2019, several key changes were made to better focus the website on the OVPUE mission and how its constituent departments support the various initiatives of the office. The biggest update is the new strategic initiatives section.

Since OVPUE IT began building websites in the WCMS, we have required a 2 hour in-person training for staff before they are granted access to their websites in the WCMS. The 2 hour training contained a lot of information and was difficult for staff to absorb, and the nature of WCMS work means that only small pieces of information are needed and sometimes 6 months pass between training and the person’s first time logging into the system.
