Unionville 4th grade is studying Energy, so their teacher thought building paper roller coasters would be a good way to make it interactive. I found this template at Science Buddies. We talked about what kinds of energy they knew about (we had done some electricity earlier in the year). We got to PE & KE and what they were, as well as Work. We didnt have a bowling ball, so they had to imagine a bowling ball above their foot and a tennis ball above their other foot and which would hurt & why.
They started cutting out the templates. More cutting and building the next day as well as talk about roller coasters and the PE/KE considerations of those. They were almost done building by the end of day 2.
