As the sad news of yet another beloved celebrity’s death due to mental illness reaches us, we would like to remind everyone that May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Millions of people nationwide live with mental illness, and the stress of living during a pandemic hasn’t helped our mental wellbeing during these last couple of years. For those who need help, here are a few options to consider:
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): https://www.nami.org/Get-Involved/Awareness-Events/Mental-Health-Awareness-Month
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): https://www.samhsa.gov/programs/mental-health-awareness-month
Indiana Disability Resource FINDER: https://www.indianadisabilityresourcefinder.org/
We also have a number of books on mental health and mental illness available in the Library at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community. Here’s a link to a search results list in IUCAT for Mental Health. Please send us an email at libiidc@indiana.edu or call us at 800-437-7924 if you see anything you’d like to check out.
