Elinor Ostrom, late Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington, became a 2009 Nobel laureate for her work in the economic sciences – the first woman to receive this award. To honor her work and legacy, the Ostrom Commons and a new statue of Ostrom will be dedicated on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 1:30 PM, both in-person to a limited audience and via broadcast at broadcast.iu.edu.
In her capacity as a 2020–2021 Ostrom Fellow, IU Musicology Ph.D. student Jaime Carini will deliver a few remarks on Ostrom’s legacy, her contributions to the world, as well as describe how this new statue memorializes Ostrom’s extraordinary achievements.
Carini is in the early phases of a project on music expertise and music ownership that will eventually turn into a dissertation proposal. She is also completing a peer-reviewed book chapter, “Artisanship, Artifact, and Aesthetic Fact,” in which she discusses both Elinor and Vincent Ostrom’s theories of artisanship – including craftsmanship, design, aesthetic knowledge, and the idea of cultural science.
