Ábel M.G.E.’s (BM ’18) ‘I’m Cleaning, I’m Cleaning’ at Hungarian State Opera 24’/25′ season Hungarian State Opera has announced the European premiere of Ábel M.G.E. and librettist Aubrey Lavender’s dark-comic chamber opera for next April, 2025. The duo’s first collaborative foray, I’m Cleaning, I’m Cleaning was created for the Guildhall Opera Department who premiered it in 2021. This season will also see the world premiere of the duo’s absurdist sci-fi fantasy opera, Horse Person Opera at Tête à Tête festival this September. Christopher LaRosa (DM ’18) Arranges Music for 2024 World Figure Skating Championships Chris LaRosa arranged the preshow for the 2024 World Figure Skating Championship Exhibition Gala, which took place at the Bell Centre in Montréal on March 24. The arrangement consisted of a medley of music from Gustav Holst’s The Planets, Op. 32, and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, op. 90, “The Italian.” The musicians of the Montréal Symphony Orchestra delivered a captivating performance of the arrangement, complemented by synchronized projections on the ice. |

Leigha Amick (BM ’21) Columbine Memorial Concert, Ars Nova Singers Concert, and Curtis Graduation On April 20th, the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, St. Martin’s Chamber Choir, and Columbine High School choir premiered Leigha’s piece Not Staying Long, commissioned to honor the lives lost at Columbine High school on April 20th, 1999. Upcoming in Colorado is the premiere of Leigha’s choral setting of Hayden Dansky’s poem Shattering Love, commissioned as part of the Ars Nova Singers’ Shared Visions project. This May, Leigha will receive her Master of Music in Composition from the Curtis Institute of Music. |

Till Meyn’s (MM ’96) Music Goes on Tour Composer Till Meyn (MM ’96) is completing his 17th year as Professor of Composition and Theory at TCU in Fort Worth, TX. In March, he toured Scandinavia with the Singing Girls of Texas, as they premiered his new SSAA work Oculi in astra in Stockholm, Sweden. Also in March, Meyn’s On a Lark for two clarinets and piano was premiered and toured around the South by the Painted Sky Ensemble, and his new horn duet Double Trouble was performed in venues around North Texas. Later this spring, Meyn’s newest choral work Skallakan will be premiered by the HEB Elementary Honor Choir, and he will begin work on a choral cycle for the TCU Chorale based on Scandinavian folk tunes. |

Corey Chang To Spearhead “East-West Collaboration” Residency This May This May, “East-West Collaboration,” an initiative led and curated by Indiana University doctoral student Corey Chang, will unfold at the Zhejiang Conservatory in Hangzhou, China. The project features newly created works that blend traditional Chinese instruments with Western orchestral instruments, crafted by IU students Huan Sun, Xinyuan Deng, and Corey Chang, as well as alumna Shuyu Lin (Composition ’23). The team will engage in a series of cultural exchanges including workshops, lectures, and the premiere of their compositions on May 16th. This initiative enjoys the support of and sponsorship by the Office of the Vice President of International Affairs, the Graduate and Professional Student Government, the East Asian Languages and Cultures department, and the Jacobs School of Music Office of the Dean, alongside contributions from faculty at both Indiana University and the Zhejiang Conservatory. Kian Ravaei Awarded C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellowship Kian Ravaei has been awarded a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellowship to attend the Doctor of Musical Arts program at Juilliard beginning this fall. His cohort will comprise seven other fellows including instrumentalists and vocalists, all of whom are awarded a full-tuition scholarship from the C.V. Starr Foundation. |

Sy Anderson Premiere at “In A Moment . . .” Memories, the building blocks of personality and the avenue in which one’s life is shaped. Some memories, however, are all we have left of things we once possessed. “In A Moment…” is a through-composed, sonic journey that deals with experiencing and processing traumatic memories, and how one begins to move on. “In A Moment…” includes audio and visual memories from the life of percussionist and performance artist, Braedon Bomgardner (reimagined in multiple ways), 2 world premieres (Alexis C. Lamb, and Sy Anderson), and 5 separate interludes to be played in between pieces. “In A Moment…” took place on April 6th, 2024 at 4:00pm EST in MAC066. |

Aaron Travers’ Beanblossom Receives US Premiere Linda Chatterton and Matthew McCright will be giving the US premiere of Aaron Travers’ Beanblossom, for flute and piano, on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 4801 France Ave S, Minneapolis. The 3-movement work is a set of impressions of the Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve near Bloomington, IN. Its premiere was given in April at the American Cathedral in Paris. It is slated to be recorded in August of this year. More of Aaron Travers’ music can be found at aarontravers.com. |

Larry Groupé Awards and Performances “A Long Road to Tao” The new feature film with score by Larry Groupé has just won first place at the Las Cruces New Mexico film festival. A true story about long-term friendship within California surf culture. “Prometheus Unwound,” a string quartet by Larry Groupé, was commissioned by CalTech for the 60th year anniversary of the Palomar Observatory, will be performed by members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra in five performances, in five different venues across the state during the weekend of April 12-14. |
