Brian Blume’s “Alarm!” to premiere next month in Chicago
Brian Blume’s (MM outside area) Alarm! for percussion ensemble will be premiered at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic in Chicago in December by the Center Grove H. S. Percussion Ensemble. Also, he will be performing several of his works (among others, including a Chappell Kingsland piece) in the TROMP International Percussion Festival in Eindhoven, Netherlands Nov. 13-21.
Elliott Bark’s “Winter Sketches for String Quartet”
Elliott Bark‘s Winter Sketches for String Quartet (2008-09 Kuttner Quartet Prize-winning composition) has been selected for the 15th Biennial Festival of New Music at Florida State University. The festival will run from January 27 through January 29, 2011.
Natalie Williams’ “Five Bagatelles for Piano Solo”
Natalie Williams‘ Five Bagatelles for Piano Solo was recently awarded 2nd place in the Plathner’s Eleven composition competition and was also named as the Special Prize of Gintaras Janusevicius. David Dzubay wins 2010 Heckscher Foundation-Ithaca College Composition Prize
Composition department chair, Professor David Dzubay has won the 2010 Heckscher Foundation-Ithaca College Composition Prize ($3,000) for his chamber work, Kukulkan II, which was featured on the New Music Ensemble tour to Kosovo last April. Clint Needham receives commission from Orpheus Chamber Orchestra
Clint Needham, MM, DM’10, has been commissioned to write a work for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in celebration of their 40th year anniversary season next year at Carnegie Hall. Sixty composers were nominated and, over several months, a committee narrowed the field down to 12 finalists (including several IU alumni). From the finalists, four composers received commissions. Kenneth Froelich in residence at Cornell
