Composer Sean Shepherd (BM ’02) recently saw his commissioned work Magiya make its European premiere at the BBC Proms on July 21, 2013. Carnegie Hall’s newly established National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America was Conducted by Valery Gergiev and broadcast live on BBC Radio.
Originally from Reno, Nevada, Shepherd earned degrees in composition and bassoon performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where his teachers included Claude Baker and David Dzubay, composition, and Kim Walker, bassoon. He also holds a Master’s degree from The Juilliard School and has completed doctoral work at Cornell University.
