Jeremy Podgursky Receives Premiere, Special Distinction and Residency
Jeremy Podgursky’s Mindjob (Version 2) was performed by the Northwestern University Contemporary Music Ensemble at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, Evanston, IL. It was conducted by Jeremy’s partner in Holographic and IU alum/former faculty, Ben Bolter. Mindjob was written for Alarm Will Sound and premiered at the 2010 Mizzou New Music Festival.
Additionally, Jeremy received Special Distinction in the ASCAP Rudolph Nissim Awards for As a Spell , Against Falling Objects (or How I Learned to Love Gravity), a piece for sinfonietta premiered in 2013 by the IU New Music Ensemble. Jeremy is also one of nine American composers from eight states to have been chosen for the 2014 Copland House Residency Awards, 3-8 week stays at Aaron Copland’s National Historic Landmark home in New York’s Lower Hudson Valley. He will be in residency from March 3rd-April 15th completing his dissertation, a sinfonietta piece for the IU New Music Ensemble.
Sam Wells to Tour and Receive SEAMUS Performance
Samuel Wells will be a guest artist presenting recitals of new works for trumpet and electronics at Northern Arizona University and the University of California – San Diego. In late March, Sam’s trumpet/cello duo, Kludge, will be on tour in Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania with new works by Sven-David Sandstorm and Texu Kim. Benjamin Wedeking will present Sam’s work, stringstrung for guitar and video, at the 2015 SEAMUS National Conference at Virginia Tech University at the end of the month. Read More…
Corey Rubin’s String Quartet to Receive Premiere at RED NOTE Festival
Corey Rubin’s piece Skyrocket, for string quartet, will be premiered by the Momenta Quartet at the 2015 RED NOTE New Music Festival in Normal, Illinois on April 1st. Rubin was one of eight composers selected for the festival’s Composition Workshop with guest composer Steven Stucky.

Jonathan Metzinger (BM ’14) Wins the OperaMaya Annual International Composition Competition, Receives Commission from Chicago Arts Orchestra
Jonathan Metzinger’s K’atun, for orchestra, chorus and soloist, won the OperaMaya Annual International Composition Competition for a new work in the Mayan language hosted by the OperaMaya Foundation, and debuted in the Riviera Maya of Mexico in a live television broadcast of the OperaMaya International Music Festival in Tulum, Mexico. In addition, the Chicago Arts Orchestra has commissioned Jonathan for their 2015 season. This piece, entitled Combo à la Mode, inspired by the cultural heritage of Chicago, will debut on April 26th at the Athenaeum theatre in Chicago.
