In April, Eric Nathan (MM’08) was awarded a 2014 John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in Musical Composition and was appointed Visiting Assistant Professor at Williams College for the 2014-15 academic year. This summer, New York Philharmonic Principal Trombonist Joseph Alessi premiered Eric’s “As Above, So Below” at the New York Philharmonic Biennial, and “Toying” for solo trumpet was performed at the Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music. In July, the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra premiered “Gibellina” for orchestra. This fall Eric works on a commission for the Boston Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players to premiere in January 2015 and a new work for violinist Jennifer Koh.
Nathan received his D.M.A. in composition from Cornell University, an M.M. from Indiana University, and his B.A. from Yale College. He also attended The Juilliard School Pre-College Division. His principal teachers include Steven Stucky, Roberto Sierra, Claude Baker, Sven-David Sandström and Kathryn Alexander.
