The world premiere of David Ward-Steinman’s Singapore Sonorama was given in Singapore’s Esplanade Concert Hall Dec. 1 by the Philharmonic Winds of Singapore conducted by Leonard Tan, who commissioned the piece. (The American premiere was recently given by the IU Wind Ensemble under the direction of Stephen Pratt on Nov. 12).
Ward-Steinman also delivered a lecture on world music at the Singapore University on Thanksgiving Day.
On Nov. 4 he was featured on the national “Composers Datebook” broadcast and represented by excerpts from his Woodwind Quintet No. 2 (“Night Winds”) which was also performed at IU on his Faculty Recital Sept. 28 by the Category Five Quintet Quintet.
