Jacobs alumnus Brendan Faegre’s “The Brightness of Light” premiered at The Lake George Music Festival on Wednesday, August 21. This newly commissioned work in honor of Georgia O’Keeffe’s legacy in Lake George was comprised of an undectet conducted by Roger Kalia.
Additionally, at the Cortona Sessions in Italy this past July, two of Faegre’s pieces received their world premieres: Effusions for flute and piano, and an arrangement of Lys-Slâtt for cello.
Faegre has also been commissioned to write a new piece for the 31-tone microtonal Fokker Organ in Amsterdam. It will be premiered by early/new music keyboardist Masato Suzuki at the Muziekgebouw on January 12, 2014.
Faegre earned his Master of Music degree from Indiana University where he studied under Don Freund, Claude Baker, Michael Gandolfi, Gregory Youtz and Robert Hutchinson. He also holds a Master of Music from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Puget Sound. Selected as a finalist in the TICF Composition Competition this year in Bangkok, Faegre saw a performance of his Four Koans, as well as a slew of concerts, master classes, and presentations.
