David Dzubay was on sabbatical during spring 2013, spending five weeks in Bogliasco, Italy with a fellowship at the Liguria Study and Conference Center near Genoa. His recent band version of Snake Alley was featured on the closing concert of the 2013 CBDNA Conference in March (Scott Weiss leading the University of South Carolina Wind Ensemble) and was also released on CD in a recording by Eugene Corporon and the UNT Wind Symphony. Summer activity included performances in Breckenridge, Colorado with the National Repertory Orchestra and at the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, where he was composer-in residence for a third year, teaching composition and conducting readings with the band and orchestras. He has been commissioned by Berlin PianoPercussion for a work to be premiered in April 2014. He was named honorable mention in the 2013 Barlow International Composition Competition.
