John Gibson was Composer in Residence at the Lipa Festival of Contemporary Music at Iowa State University in October. His Red Plumes, for cello and electronics, was performed by cellists Craig Hultgren, Gregory Sauer, Madeleine Shapiro, and George Work at various festivals throughout the year. Uncanny Valley, his 50-minute piece for spoken word, piano, and electronics, received 11 performances across the country, at venues including the University of Michigan, Harvard University, and CNMAT at UC Berkeley. The piece was recorded at WGBH Boston. Innova Recordings accepted Gibson’s proposal for a solo CD, for release in 2014. In July he was promoted to Associate Professor at IU.
