Alumnus Cary Boyce, winner of the 2010 Annual Rockefeller Memorial Chapel Organ and Choir Composition Competition, will receive the world premiere performance of his composition, Lux, at the University of Chicago Rockefeller Memorial Chapel’s anniversary concert, “A Midwinter Celebration,” December 5 at 3pm. IU Alumnus James Kallembach will direct the Rockefeller Chapel Choir and instrumentalists, with Thomas Weisflog, organ. The ensemble will also perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat and Benjamin Britten’s Hymn to the Virgin. Boyce joins a list of composers with IU connections who have written works for the Chapel’s E.M. Skinner organ and choir, including William Bolcom, Marta Ptaszynska, James Kallembach, and Sven-David Sandström. Cary also lectures in the Jacobs School’s Music in General Studies program.
