NOTUS Invited to Perform at ACDA Midwestern Regional Conference in Chicago
NOTUS, the Indiana University Contemporary Vocal Ensemble directed by choral faculty member Dominick DiOrio, has been invited to perform at the 2022 Midwestern Regional Conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Chicago, Illinois on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 1:30pm CT in the Harris Theater.
NOTUS will present a 25-minute program titled What is Ours: Music for an America in Progress, featuring music of Carlos Cordero, Reena Esmail, Andrea Ramsey, and Joel Thompson, plus world premiere performances of new commissioned works by Moira Smiley and by DiOrio. Titled A Chain is Broken, DiOrio’s new work sets a new commissioned poem by Iranian American poet Khashayar Tonekaboni called “Earth’s Anthem.”
NOTUS will also take part in a repertoire reading session on Saturday, February 19th called “New Music is Now Music: Music to Make a Change by Living Composers.” The session will be conducted by DiOrio and by eight of our JSOM graduate conducting majors: doctoral students Samuel Grace, Caio Lopes, Alex Koppel, and Peter Kadeli; and MM students Marcus Peterson, Sergey Tkachenko, Nicholas Sienkiewicz, and Matthias Murphy.
