Dear Friends,
This IUB ILS Newsletter provides a great opportunity for us to reflect on the past year, which has been a remarkable year for ILS. The department is thriving with wonderful faculty, students and staff. Three new faculty members—two Assistant Professors, Drs. Yuerong Hu and Siqi Wu, and one Associate Professor, Dr. Christina Boyles—joined IUB ILS in the fall 2024.
One of the thrilling updates of this past year is that ILS was ranked number 7 worldwide and number 5 in the U.S. in the 2025 QS World University Ranking: Library & Information Management, up from number 11 worldwide in 2024. Additionally, we maintained our position at number 9 in the U.S. News & World Report.
Another major milestone was successfully hosting iConference 2025 in Bloomington. Dr. Rosenbaum along with Drs. Donaldson and Choksy co-chaired the conference. Luddy staff’s help, including our own Gillian Dunn’s, was invaluable. IUB ILS faculty and doctoral students had a strong presence at the 20th anniversary of iConference. Undoubtedly, the event fostered insightful discussions that help move the field forward.
Our faculty members have been making significant strides, showcasing their expertise at other numerous prestigious conferences. Their contributions have not only enhanced our department’s reputation but also sparked new research initiatives and partnerships.
We have remained actively engaged with our alumni through various events. During the past year, we held two in-person gatherings at ALA in San Diego and SAA in Chicago, which were filled with camaraderie and networking opportunities. Additionally, we hosted one virtual event in April, featuring a panel on AI in Libraries. We will have another virtual event in May and encourage you to participate.
Many of our students stated that they chose to enroll in the ILS programs based on the recommendation from our alumni. Your support has been instrumental in increasing our MLS, MIS, and Ph.D. applications. Please continue spreading the positive words about ILS, as your efforts are crucial in helping us attract outstanding students. It’s been a pleasure working with exceptional and dedicated colleagues and students this past year. Finally, I wish the Class of 2025 continued success.
We love to stay connected with our alumni community and would appreciate hearing from you periodically about your endeavors and experiences. Thank you all for your steady support to IUB ILS.
Warm Regards,
