On Wednesday, January 22, the ILS department kicked off the spring semester by hosting a Student Group Callout for its various student groups. The event was well-attended, and represented groups included the American Library Association Student Chapter (ALA-SC), Students of Music Librarianship Group (SMLG), Society of Art Librarianship Students (SALS), Society for Rare Books and Manuscripts at Indiana University (SRBM at IU), Society of American Archivists (SAA), and the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T).

The ALA-SC at Indiana University (president Sophia Congdon) is an official student chapter of the ALA. This chapter has recently been revived after a semester of inactivity and is already planning social events and organizing a trip to the ALA Conference in Philadelphia this June.
The SMLG (president Sarah Carter) aims to connect students interested in music librarianship, library science and/or musicology and provide opportunities for professional growth in this and related fields.
The SALS (president Rachael Ritter) seeks to provide professional development and networking opportunities to those interested in art librarianship, visual resources, and similar areas. They are planning several trips to art museums around the Midwest, including Louisville and Chicago, and encourage all interested students to join them.

The SRBM at IU (president Jake Gentry) hosts discussions, lectures, and other events to learn more about the rare books and manuscript field.
ASIS&T and the SAA are currently inactive but are looking for students interested in re-establishing the groups. For more information about how to get involved in any of these student groups, reach out to us at ilsmain@iu.edu.
