RAHC Spring 2023 Tour Dates
Hello! Please fill out this survey if you are interested in a tour of the Regional Academic Health Center and meeting with some of our IUSM medical students! We will be able to answer any questions you have about the pre-med path, applications, medical school life, etc.! We have different times for tours on Thursday, April 20th and Thursday, April 27th for anyone interested. This is also a great time for undergraduate students to hear from medical students and answer any questions about applications/interviews/resumes/med school life/etc. as the new application cycle is approaching. You will receive a followup email with more details once you are signed up. Interested in being an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant?
Here are two possible opportunities if you would like to teach:
I.) Professor David Kehoe is seeking undergraduates interested in being UTAs for BIOL-L211 during the Fall Semester of 2023. Requirements for these positions are:
- You must be able to attend all course lectures, held from Tu/Th 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM.
- You must have taken L211 at IUB and earned at least an A-.
- You must be interested in working as part of a team of teachers.
- You must be willing to make this position a priority throughout the semester.

Applications for IU Undergraduate Research Summer 2023 Programs are now open!
IU Undergraduate Research Summer 2023 Programs
IU Undergraduate Research Programs through the Office of Engaged Learning run three summer research programs:
- Women in STEM LLC Summer Research Program
- IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholars Program
- IUUR STEM Summer Research Pod Program
For all three programs, students will participate in 8 weeks of research between June 5 – July 28, 2023. Participants will receive a stipend, housing, and a meal plan. Applicants must be a currently enrolled IUB student pursuing a STEM-related degree with an anticipated graduation date no earlier than December 2023.
The deadline to apply is March 20, 2023, at 11:59PM. Students whose applications are selected for further consideration may be required to interview with IUUR program staff.
IUUR programs aim to increase participation in STEM disciplines among student populations that are traditionally underrepresented in STEM. Women, first generation, students from historically excluded racial and ethnic groups, and students with high financial need are encouraged to apply.

Advanced Summer Research Scholarship Application Information for Summer 2023
IU Undergraduate Research provides Advanced Summer Research Scholarships to help undergraduate researchers spend their summers undertaking original research or creative projects.
Students in any field are eligible to apply, but must meet the following requirements:
All applicants must have a well-developed research plan and a faculty mentor who has agreed to supervise the project.
Applicants must not be receiving other sources of funding or earning academic credit for their summer research.
Seniors may not apply for funding projects that take place the summer following graduation.
Past recipients of this scholarship are eligible to apply a second time. However, priority is given to first time recipients.
Award amounts vary based on availability of funding and project time commitment, but the maximum award is $3,500.
Applications must include the following:
- An overview (2-3 pages) of the proposed research project, including:
- a) project title; b) background information; c) research questions; d) overview of methodology/approach; e) timeline for completing the project, including estimated hours applicant will commit to the project over the summer; and f) description of research products (such as poster, draft of article, screenplay) to be completed by end of summer.
- A cover letter describing the applicant’s motivation, prior research experiences, and qualifications for carrying out the proposed project.
- A statement of support from a faculty mentor that includes an endorsement of the proposed research project and estimated hours the applicant will commit to the project over the summer. This letter can be included with application materials or emailed directly to uroffice@iu.edu.
Applicants will be evaluated on a) the quality, feasibility, and significance of their proposed projects and b) their preparedness to carry them out, as demonstrated in the cover letter and faculty support.

Application deadline: The application deadline is noon (12pm EST) on Friday, March 10, 2023. Applicants will be notified of the outcome in early April. All Advanced Summer Research Scholarship recipients are expected to present their work in the Summer Showcase of Student Research the last Thursday in July.
BIOL-Z 463 Comparative Neurobiology of Animal Behavior will be offered Fall 2023!
The Fall 2023 IUB Schedule of Classes is not published online yet (we hope to see it sometime in the next week or two). Meanwhile, here’s a preview of a Fall 2023 course that juniors and seniors might be interested in!
BIOL-Z 463 Comparative Neurobiology of Animal Behavior (3 cr.)
Prerequisite: BIOL-L 112 (or BIOL-H 111); and junior or senior standing.
Recommended: PSY-P 326 or PSY-P 346.
Undergraduates should be careful to enroll in BIOL-Z 463, not the 500-level section! The 500-level section is for graduate students and will not count for anything whatsoever in your bachelor’s degree.
Hourly paid assistant needed for Nikolov plant lab
The Nikolov Lab is looking for an hourly lab assistant to help with basic lab maintenance and plant care ($16-$20/hour depending on the level of expertise, 10-15 hours/week). No previous lab or plant care experience is required. Includes possibility to get involved in research projects if interested.
JOB POSTING DETAILS
Research in the Nikolov Lab focuses on the evolution and development of flowers. Plant cultivation is fundamental to all of our research projects. Duties on a regular basis include:
-Sowing seeds and transplanting seedlings on soil
-Collecting plant tissue for DNA, RNA and protein extraction
-Plant care (watering, pest control)
