The Bartholomew County Public Library (BCPL) seeks to expand professional staff capacity from one to two full-time archivists with the hire of the first Digital Archivist. The ideal candidate will be someone eager and unafraid to experiment with tools and workflows in the service of building a nascent digital preservation program. They will be determined and confident in leading new initiatives: a technologically adept, self-directed, creative and curious problem-solver. The candidate should be passionate and knowledgeable about archival methods and standards, as well as tools and systems. The largest and primary collection within the archives of BCPL is the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives (CIAA). Other collections include institutional records and visual materials from a local newspaper. While CIAA’s roots began with the initial collection of architectural records 55 years ago, the archives only recently benefitted from the guidance of a professional archivist and came under the purview of the Bartholomew County Public Library in 2018. The Digital Archivist will work in tandem with the Archivist to bring the overall archives program to the next stage of maturity.

Anticipated starting salary: $47,000 and $55,000 annually, commensurate on experience and qualifications

Hourly Position Announcement: Research Assistant with Drs. Angela Murillo and Ayoung Yoon

Drs. Angela Murillo and Ayoung Yoon are looking for a student to join their research team, which is investigating community data curation competencies to create related curriculum.

The student employee will receive $15.00 per hour and are expected to work approximately 20 hours per week on the project.

Ideal candidates should have some experience in qualitative research methods and the following skill-sets:

Literature searching and analysis
Attention to detail
Excellent communication and writing skills
Qualitative data analysis
Some knowledge or experience with Nvivo
Some knowledge of basic statistics

The student will also be provided funding to attend a professional conference and will help co-author publications related to the research.

This position will start immediately with the possibility of continuing through 2023-2024.

Industry speakers = bringing information science professionals to you!

The series intent is to help DLIS students build perspective on how to develop a career in library and information science by hearing from working professionals across sectors and at a variety of career stages. Gain insight on career opportunities and potential applications of the MLIS by hearing from speakers about their path to librarianship/information science, work history, professional advancement, and general advice for those entering the job market.

Who?

DLIS students as well as undergrad/grad SoIC & others, alumni, and professionals in the broader LIS community or those interested in librarianship and information professions.

When?

Last Wednesday of the month during the fall and spring semesters, 7 pm EST
Due to the end of the semester, there is no December or May speaker.

Why?

It can be tough to know about the daily work of specific roles, or gauge areas of interest when you are earning your degree. Gain a better sense of what you can work toward and how you might approach the job market. In-person interaction can be challenging in a fully-online asynchronous program. This series is an opportunity to interact with professionals in real time, ask questions, and interact with fellow students and faculty.
