Bookstore Program Coordinator: Based in Indianapolis and serving Central Indiana, Indy Reads builds the literacy, English language, and job readiness skills to empower adults and families to reach their full potential. We believe that everyone should have an opportunity to learn to read. We advance our mission by providing free literacy, English language, workforce readiness and other programs to adults through our innovative Community Classrooms and community bookstore. We operate through our core values: Student Centered; Innovative; Inclusive; Literacy. Indy Reads is a highly regarded and well-established organization with more than 35 years of experience in adult education. We seek a Bookstore Program Coordinator to enable innovative and engaging programming in our bookstore.
With the efforts of the Bookstore Program Coordinator, more Central Indiana adults and families will be able to improve their literacy levels, foster a joy of reading, connect with the community, gain job skills and earn workforce training certifications.
This full-time, entry-level position reports to the Bookstore Program Director and requires weekdays, weekends, and some evening commitment. Indy Reads is pleased to offer AmeriCorps service opportunities in our Adult Basic Education (ABE) Community Classrooms, consisting of High School Equivalency (HSE), English Language Learner (ELL) and Literacy Foundations instruction. The mission of Indy Reads is to build the literacy, English language, and job readiness skills to empower adults and families to reach their full potential.
Position Description:
Make a difference in the Indianapolis, Indiana community by becoming a WorkLiteracy coach at Indy Reads. Members will receive extensive training and tools to help adults who are learning how to read, speak English, and increase their job readiness skills. Through the extensive professional development and hands-on experience in this program, Members will develop presentation, coaching, and mentoring skills, and earn an education award for future higher education or to pay off existing higher-education debts. Members will serve under the supervision of Indy Reads program staff.
