University of Louisville (UofL) Libraries invites applications from creative, energetic, and knowledgeable candidates for the position of Business Research & Teaching Librarian. This tenure track position works with faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students in UofL’s College of Business. The Business Research & Teaching Librarian reports to the Head of Collection Management and serves the William F. Ekstrom Library Research & Instruction Department, a collegial and service-oriented group of nine librarians, two professional staff, and three student assistants.

Primary Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison to UofL’s College of Business
• Support faculty and researchers across the lifecycle of research, teaching and learning
• Develop and sustain productive working relationships with UofL’s College of Business faculty and students by responding to and anticipating their distinct information needs
• Provide course-related and resource-specific instruction to undergraduate and graduate business students
• Create, enhance, and update online business guides and tutorials on an ongoing basis
• Deliver quality, in-depth research assistance in the field of business, both virtually and in-person
• Collaborate with collection librarians to develop, oversee, and assess Ekstrom Library’s collections in business, and other areas as assigned
• Participate in other library instruction, including general undergraduate and subject-specific instruction sessions, as needed
• Foster and create new methods of instruction, outreach, and assessment
• Maintain a strong record of research, publication, professional, and university service

Required Qualifications:

• ALA-accredited Master’s degree
• Library experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of business databases and government statistics
• Understanding of business concepts and vocabulary
• Strong service orientation, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team within a culturally diverse user community
• Potential to meet promotion and tenure requirements

Desirable Qualifications

• Degree in business or business-related field, experience as a business librarian, or prior relevant experience in a corporate/business environment.
• Academic, research, special, or corporate library experience
• Teaching or training experience
• Knowledge of emerging business resources, technologies, and research services
• Experience with or knowledge of learning management systems and/or online instruction tools

The anticipated initial rank is Instructor or Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of $42,000.  Entry rank and salary are negotiated at the time of offer and are dependent on the experience, professional achievement and assigned rank of the successful candidate.

The Coordinator of Archives and Special Collections, through collaboration and leadership, is responsible for the operation of the Archives of DePauw University and Indiana United Methodism (a joint archives of the Indiana Conferences of the United Methodist Church and DePauw University) and the DePauw University Special Collections.

This is a renewable term faculty position beginning in July of 2020 with rank to be determined based on experience.  The successful candidate should hold an MLS or equivalent from an accredited institution.  Funding is available for professional development and research.

RESEARCH AND INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN

The Research and Instructional Services Librarian works with library faculty and staff to advance the library’s educational programming, including the library’s legal research instruction courses and programs for faculty and students; provides reference assistance to library patrons (faculty, students, and members of the public); participates in evening and weekend reference coverage; assists in developing and promoting instructional and user support materials including multimedia and web-based materials; participates in the faculty liaison program; assists with other information services activities; works on team-based projects; and participates in collection development. The Research and Instructional Services Librarian reports to the Associate Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with other librarians to teach legal research in the classroom and/or online in the library’s legal instructional courses, including developing and enhancing the legal research curriculum with existing and emerging multimedia technology.
2.  Provide legal research instruction to Law School faculty and students in informal training sessions.
3. Provide reference and research assistance to library users with an emphasis on service to the faculty, students and staff of the Law School by participating in day, evening and weekend reference schedule.
4. Participate in the faculty liaison program to provide research support for Law School faculty, provide liaison support to law review and the moot court.
5. Participate in collection development by evaluating and selecting information resources.
6. Other duties as assigned by the Law Library Director and Associate Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. J.D. from ABA approved law school; M.L.S. from ALA accredited library school.
2. Research and reference experience and evidence of successful teaching experience in an academic law library or commensurate experience.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in traditional and electronic legal research methods and excellent knowledge of legal and interdisciplinary research resources including print and electronic materials.
4. Demonstrated expertise in the use of technologies including instructional technology, internet resources, and integrated library systems.
5. Evidence of ability to meet Indiana University (IUPUI campus) promotion and tenure requirements including scholarship and participation in professional activities.
6. Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
7. Demonstrated strong service orientation and leadership skills.
8. Ability to work effectively and creatively in a collaborative environment.
9. Exhibits professionalism by being reliable, timely, flexible, and collegial.
