Internship Summary:
The Riley Block Family Library at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health has openings for Internships for spring semester.
The library, located within walking distance of the IUPUI campus, is similar to a public library. Collections include: DVD’s, video games, books for all ages including Spanish and early readers, Consumer Medical information. Reference services are provided. The library has a reading corner that has a “celebrity guest” each month, access to a studio where Riley Reading Time is produced, recorded and televised for viewing throughout the hospital and dial-a-story. The library also has 10 computers, and 4 gaming systems.
As an Intern you will get a wide variety of experience. There are so many opportunities to do something meaningful.
Interns interested in Media Arts can create kid friendly commercials, and informational videos. Reading programs with a multi-media aspect could also be created.
Interns interested in Media Services or Youth Services will also find a niche. The hospital has a school program which the library supports. Interns may select materials, including educational websites and apps. The library would also like to start having weekly reading times in the library or on the units. Of course you will be exposed to all the other “usual” library duties such as checking items in and out, weeding, shelf reading, labeling and cataloging… This is a small library with a lot of autonomy so an Intern that is self-driven will find this opportunity to be very rewarding.
If you would be interested in an Internship, for the spring semester, with the Riley Block Family Library please send a resume to Dena Vincent at dvincent@iuhealth.org by November 3, 2017.
As an Intern you will need to have a background check, health screening and orientation. It will be important to fulfill all deadlines in order to be on-boarded in a timely manner. Interns will receive a parking pass and meal ticket for each day worked.
For those individuals that cannot fit an Internship into their schedule the library is starting a friends of the library group where you could be involved as much as you want. If you are interested in being a member of the friends group please contact Dena Vincent by at dvincent@iuhealth.org or call 317-944-1149.
If you would like to volunteer there are many opportunities days/nights/weekend. Please email dvincent@iuhealth.org or call 317-944-1149 to set up a time to meet.
