Full job description
Job Objective:
The Makerspace Specialist schedules user appointments, trains and assists users, and supervises use of all equipment in the makerspace. This is a full-time position that requires 37.5 hours per week. Hours will vary and include days, nights, and Saturdays. Dependability and diligent attendance are required.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree or a combination of post-secondary education and relevant work experience required
2. Public Library experience is a plus
3. Familiarity with makerspaces/technology and equipment
Essential Requirements:
1. Initiates, plans, hosts, and conducts a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the makerspace by children, teens, and adults. Includes preparing or obtaining training materials.
2. Works with inexperienced technology users in one-on-one sessions by appointment.
3. Assists patrons of all ages in the makerspace with a variety of machinery and software including 3D printers, laser engraver/cutter, vinyl printer/cutter, poster printer, Cricut, Adobe software, Corel Draw, and other equipment as added.
4. Trains/demonstrates makerspace technology to staff. Informs staff of updates or changes to equipment and/or procedures.
5. Assists in the creation of policies and procedures for the makerspace.
6. Maintains equipment and software for the makerspace.
7. Troubleshoots a variety of devices.
8. Engages with members of the community to promote the library and maker services.
9. Has working knowledge of PC and Mac operating systems and Microsoft Office Applications.
10. Keeps abreast of trends in technology.
11. Maintains good relations with public and staff.
12. Assists patrons in identifying and locating information using computerized and print resources.
13. Follows and enforce policies and procedures consistently.
14. Attends and participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences as appropriate.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of personal computer hardware and operating system software.
2. Knowledge of personal computer applications and software packages.
3. Skill at providing training and support for patrons and staff.
4. Ability to acquire and demonstrate working knowledge of new hardware, equipment, and emerging technologies.
5. Ability to acquire and demonstrate working knowledge of new and/or unfamiliar software.
6. Ability to effectively communicate technical information that may be difficult for patrons to grasp.
7. Ability to deal with difficult patron behavior.
8. Ability to create a welcoming environment for public and staff.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 to 15 pounds and is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must have manual dexterity.

Pay: From $21.32 per hour
