The Page is an opportunity to grow in a professional environment focusing on document retrieval, refiling, including books and other materials. These responsibilities involve a high degree of coordination, communication, organization and the ability to accurately file and retrieve items in a complex and vast set of storage systems. The Page should be proficient with computers as the State Archives inventory and records request systems are automated.
The Page has many daily activities that include:
- Understand complex filing systems in various locations throughout a large facility
- Accurately find and return documents and materials to their appropriate location after use by staff, volunteers and patrons of the State Archives.
- Be certified to use a high lift or be prepared to train and pass a high lift training class.
- Be proficient with data entry to record records being checked in and out from the State Archives shelving locations.
- Occasionally assist with special events and public programs
- Occasionally be called upon to work weekends and evenings
Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of a high school diploma. Familiarity with the Indiana history, and Indiana State and local government would be preferred.
- Ability to anticipate problems and initiate corrective action;
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a communicator, both orally and in writing;
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team, manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously and to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
- Maintain confidentiality and tactfully handle difficult situations;
- Computer skills are required as the incumbent will consistently interface with databases and technology including desktop computers, handheld scanners and handheld electronic devices.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and be physically capable of moving large volumes of heavy items during the course of a day.
