Two student positions are available for Virtual Bethel Project (this can be a one position for an ideal candidate who is knowledgeable and has experience in both aspects) at the Department of Library Science, IUPUI.
Virtual Bethel Project
Funded by Indiana University’s New Frontiers in the Arts & Humanities Program, the Virtual Bethel project aims to build a 3D virtual space of the physical church building to preserve the cultural heritage, and create it as an interactive learning space for un-represented history and primary source education. Position 1: Archival processing
Virtual Bethel Project team is looking for a graduate student who will work for Imaging archive that is a part of Virtual Bethel Project.
This position will begin mid-March, 2017, working for 100 hours ($12.9/h). This position is flexible with hours and days and will enjoy his or her own work space and computer.
Responsibilities
Ideal candidate will conduct archival processing and metadata creation, mostly born-digital photos but some multi-media materials as well as 3D objects. All work will be done in DSpace (http://www.dspace.org/) environment.
Required qualification
- Interests in archive and preservation
- Familiarity with metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, EAD)
Preferred qualification
- Formal coursework and training in archival management and theory
- Previous experience working in archives
- Experience with DSpace

Position 2: Web development and DSpace customization
Virtual Bethel Project team is looking for a graduate student who will develop a project website and help customizing DSpace (http://www.dspace.org/) for the project use.
This position will begin mid-March, 2017, working for 50 hours ($12.9/h).
Responsibilities
Ideal candidate will help customizing DSpace (http://www.dspace.org/) for the project use and archival processing, and also develop a project website.
Required qualification
- Interests and experience working with open source software.
- Ability to troubleshoot open source software (DSpace).
- Some experience with web development
