Job Title: Processing Intern
Salary information: $13/hr
Position overview:
As part of the Special Collections and Archives team in IUPUI University Library, the Processing Intern will arrange and describe collections that are part of the National Service Archives, including the papers of Shirley Sagawa and other small collections. The intern will create finding aids in ArchivesSpace for each collection processed.
The ideal candidate will understand the basics of processing collections through their coursework and be eager to apply these lessons to real-life collections. They will seek answers to questions in available documentation first but not hesitate to ask their supervisor for advice when needed. They should be able to communicate questions and ideas effectively. The workspace allocated for this project will require the intern to wear a mask at least some of the time.
The intern may be a current student or recent graduate and may be eligible for continuing part-time employment after the successful conclusion of the internship. This position is eligible to earn LIS 605 credit this fall semester, to start on or after August 23rd 2021.
Position duties and responsibilities:
- Process personal papers and institutional records, including boxing, foldering, and deduplication (75%)
- Create ArchivesSpace finding aids for each collection processed, using internal guidelines and knowledge of DACS (20%)
- Answer reference questions relating to the collections processed (no more than 5%)
Required qualifications:
- Completion of LIS S581
- Availability to work in person between the hours of 8am and 5pm M-F (exact schedule to be determined with supervisor)
- Attention to detail
- Ability to learn new skills quickly
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to lift boxes and record cartons up to 40 lbs.
Preferred qualifications
- Completion of LIS S584
- Experience with ArchivesSpace or other archival applications
- Work experience in an archives or library

Job Title: Architectural Drawings Intern
Salary information: $13/hr
Position overview:
As part of the Special Collections and Archives team in IUPUI University Library, the Architectural Drawings Intern will work with University Archives holdings of blueprints and other architectural drawings of IUPUI campus buildings. The intern will assess the preservation needs of rolled plans, including selecting supplies, determining the best possible storage conditions, and applying basic preservation treatments. The intern will then arrange and interfile plans in flat files and oversized shelving for ease of access and create an ArchivesSpace resource record for easy retrieval. The ability to lift and move large and sometimes unwieldy rolls of architectural drawings is a requirement.
The ideal candidate should be a detail-oriented person who is able to work alone but not afraid to ask questions when they arise. They should be able to communicate questions and ideas effectively. The workspace allocated for this project will require the intern to wear a mask most of the time.
The intern may be a current student or recent graduate and may be eligible for continuing part-time employment after the successful conclusion of the internship. This position is eligible to earn LIS 605 credit this fall semester, to start on or after August 23rd 2021.
