Do you know an interesting librarian, archivist, or other information science professional willing to connect with our students? Your guest speaker recommendations are needed.
This semester DLIS launched the monthly Library & Information Industry Speakers Series which virtually hosts MLS/MLIS degreed professionals as guest speakers for our community the last Wednesday of the month during the spring and fall semesters.
We would like to build a roster of potential speakers for the fall 2021 semester and ensuing 2021-2022 academic year.
Of particular interest are folks who can speak to building a career related to our specializations/plans of study: https://soic.iupui.edu/lis/master-library-science/. However, in general speakers in a variety of roles, career stages, and industries are sought. Students want to hear about all career opportunities and potential applications of the MLIS.
- Faculty, alumni – consider your network and please reach out to folks who may be interested in sharing their career path and perspective with our students. Please email me the contact details for confirmed/interested speaker candidates (Lydia Spotts, lcspotts@iupui.edu)
Speakers are offered a Wednesday evening time slot (7 pm EST) during a fall/spring semester. The talk is an hour commitment and most guest speakers give a 30-45 minute talk about their path to librarianship/information science, work history, professional advancement, and general advice for those entering the job market. Student questions and dialogue typically fill the time!
