Lyndsey Blair (current MLIS student) and Jere Odell (Scholarly Communication Librarian, University Library) completed a referred poster for the Joint Midcontinental and Midwest Chapter MLA 2020 Annual Meeting. They studied the citation advantage for IUSM authors that directly participate in the IUPUI Open Access Policy. By comparing two samples of articles from 2016, they found that OA policy articles received 63% more citations (according to Google Scholar citations). You can view their 4:30 min. recorded presentation of the poster here: https://flipgrid.com/5d006a1e
For the poster, Lyndsey completed a thorough literature review, executed the methods, wrote sections of the poster, and (obviously) co-presented. Due to the strain of moving the conference to a virtual model, they received a very late notification that their poster was accepted and had to conduct the analysis and write the poster in about two weeks. (That’s one reason why it’s so heavy on words and light on figures.) Lyndsey consistently produces high quality work while learning new topics and keeping up with her classwork during a pandemic.
And, of course, their full poster is in ScholarWorks: http://hdl.handle.net/1805/24076
Lyndsey is completing her degree in LIS at IUPUI. In addition, she’s one of the city’s leading experts on the Indy arts scene during the Pan American games: https://scholarworks.iupui.edu/handle/1805/8482. She is working with us on a grant-funded project (with Denise Rayman, Brandon Pieczko, and Jere Odell) to openly archive COVID-related scholarship and COVID-related websites from the campus and key organizations in central Indiana.
Congratulations, Lyndsey and Jere!
