Summary:
The Customer Service Liaison under general supervision performs public service work serving library patrons directly or indirectly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Greets and directs patrons to various locations or locates materials; answers the phone; registers new patrons on library computer system.
2. Inventories and orders supplies and materials for public services.
3. Prepares library for opening.
4. Checks materials in and out using computer programs.
5. Uses computer software to provide information to the public or teaches patrons how to use the library’s computer ILS and digital services.
6. Responsible for shelving materials and maintain orderly and neat appearance of stacks and carts.
7. Receives and resolves complaints, referring patrons as needed to Public Services Leader.
8. Process returned materials, facilitating all steps from check in to shelf.
9. Collects and records fines and fees.
10. Assists Public Services Leader with special projects.
11. Participates in staff meetings to discuss and resolve issues, discuss ideas for improvement, and keep updated on library plans and activities.
12. Maintains library public area in clean and orderly fashion by maintaining displays, cleaning computer terminals and other general cleaning and/or organizing tasks.
13. Assists patrons with ready-reference, routine reader’s advisory service, routine bibliographic instruction, digital services instruction.
14. Assists with or presents library programs, organizes special displays, creates and distributes promotional materials and electronic media.
15. Does outreach programs and assists with group visits and tours of the library.
16. Provides information and recommendations that can be used for materials selection.
17. Performs other related work.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Proven ability to be friendly and welcoming to all patrons and co-workers
2. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patrons.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality of library patron information.
4. Ability to follow detailed instructions.
5. Ability to gather statistics, analyze information and write reports.
6. Ability to operate library business machines properly, which may require knowledge of databases and search methods.
7. Ability to understand and follow library policies and procedures and apply them to library operations.
8. Ability to use computer software and manage computerized files.
9. Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work, respond to varied/changing work demands and make decisions as required.
10. Considerable knowledge of library methods and procedures and ability to apply them to library operations.
11. Good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with the public, peers and supervisors.
12. Computer literacy, keyboarding and filing ability.
13. Willingness to maintain skills in above-mentioned areas through active participation in appropriate continuing education activities.
14. Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
Tools and Equipment Used:
1. Book carts for transporting materials.
2. Circulation computer equipment, including scanner, keyboards, printers.
3. Laptops and LCD projectors.
4. Photocopier, microfilm/fiche reader/printer, and public access computer.
5. Digital cameras, mp3 players and similar equipment to create multi-media presentations for a variety of uses, and aptitude to learn new technologies as applied to branch use.

Experience and Qualifications:
1. Two years of college, university or technical school preferred
2. Proficient computer skills a must
3. Two or more years of related experience
