The Allen County Public Library is in search of a Librarian I to work in our busy, downtown Main Library in our Readers’ Services Department.
Responsibilities:
* Provides excellent customer service through assisting customers in identifying and locating desired materials and information from a variety of sources, including: Information from the reference collection and other print and non-print collections, digital information, especially online, the online catalog, and database services.
* Provides readers’ advisory service and help identifying and accessing social services.
* Provides computer instruction and technology assistance to customers, including ereaders and library copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines and computers.
* Supports the Readers’ Services team in maintaining a positive and welcoming public environment.
* Supports the Readers’ Services team in organizing and maintaining resources including displays and handouts.
* Provides assistance with programs for the public.
* Undertakes special projects as assigned by the department manager or assistant manager.
* Engages in professional development activities, such as taking continuing education classes and attending or participating in committees, conferences, workshops, professional meetings, and associations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree. One plus years of experience in libraries or specifically customer service.
Must pass the Dewey Decimal Skills Test.
Extremely comfortable working with computers, online searching and websites as well as knowledge of popular software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. and online services.
Must have completed nine credit hours of specific library science courses or commit to completing them within 3 1/2 years of start date in this position. Completion of this course work will allow the person obtaining this position to achieve the required Librarian Certification Level 5 within 3 1/2 years of start date in this position. After requirements are met, must earn 50 LEU (Library Education Units) within five years.

Strong sense of teamwork, flexibility in the face of change, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential.
Background in social sciences and humanities preferred.
Knowledge of sign language or bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.
Compensation:
